Conductive Keratoplasty CK: Treatment for Farsightedness
Much of InSight Lasik's reputation for excellence throughout the Denver and Boulder metropolitan areas comes from our doctors' tremendous success in treating nearsightedness with Conductive Keratoplasty (CK), a new vision procedure that can help decrease your dependence on glasses to see and read close up.
Benefits of Conductive Keratoplasty CK
What if you could reduce your dependence on reading glasses - those unwelcome reminders that age is catching up with you? What if you could enjoy the daily newspaper without squinting? Read a menu without difficulty? Watch a Broncos game without headaches? What if there was a procedure for your farsightedness that didn't involve cutting or a laser? With Conductive Keratoplasty (CK), those dreams can become realities.
Conductive Keratoplasty (CK) is a non-invasive eye surgery procedure that utilizes radiofrequency (RF) energy to steepen the cornea, reducing the patient's dependence on reading glasses. For a majority of our Colorado patients, this improvement in near vision means that they are once again able to read the newspaper, cell phone screen, or medication labels. For its work with the CK procedure, InSight LASIK has been named a CK Center of Excellence-one of only three such centers in the United States. As a Center of Excellence, InSight instructs surgeons and their staff members on the implementation and optimization of CK in their practice.
Conductive Keratoplasty (CK) is the only non-laser eye surgery procedure designed for far-sightedness, and is especially useful for our Denver, Colorado patients over the age of 40 who would like to eliminate their dependency on reading glasses. Approved by the FDA in 2002 after five years of successful clinical trials in the US and abroad, CK has proven to be a safe, effective alternative to laser surgery.
CK uses a pen-shaped instrument with a cool tip as thin as a human hair. After application of a topical anesthetic (eye drops), Dr. Tripp will apply radiofrequency (RF) energy in a circular pattern. This pattern is along the periphery of the cornea and therefore minimizes interference with your line of sight. The CK procedure is done in our eye surgery center near Denver, Colorado. Once finished, you don't have to wear a patch and can usually return to work the next day. Vision continues to improve over the course of the first few weeks.
